Hearing aid aftercare in the community
It takes time to adapt to using hearing aids – getting used
to new sounds as well as managing the hearing aids themselves. If you don’t keep your hearing aids maintained, you won’t
be able to hear as clearly. Taking care
of your hearing aids also means it will last longer and maybe save you unnecessary
trips to your audiologist. We understand that basic maintenance tasks can be tricky,
but St Mark’s Hearing Champions can help you make the most of your hearing
aids.
Who are hearing Champions?
Hearing Champions are volunteers who have been trained by NHS audiology staff in the basics of hearing aid maintenance. In addition, volunteers from the parish churches have been trained in safeguarding matters and have had appropriate police checks.
What
support do Hearing Champions offer?
Hearing Champions provide a range of services, including:
Checking hearing aids are working properly
Retubing, ear mould cleaning and supply of new batteries
Checking the filter of the hearing aid in the ear
Advice on maintenance frequency and cleaning of your hearing aid
Advice and support on making the most of your hearing aid
Information and signposting to other services and useful equipment
What’s the
Cost?
Nothing! At St Mark’s the service is free and available to anyone with
‘behind the ear’ NHS hearing aids supplied by the Royal Surrey and Frimley Park
hospitals. Batteries and the provision of sundry supplies is funded by
your local NHS Audiology Departments in partnership with the Diocese of
Guildford.
